    Malatesta & Montefeltro

    Maioletto Fortress

The only reliable reference to Maiolo dates from 1181. It first belonged to the Church and was then enfeoffed to the Montefeltro family.

In 1400 it passed into the hands of the Malatesta family, and finally passed to the Dukes of Urbino. The fortress of Maiolo was believed to be impregnable. It was destroyed by a landslide in the eighteenth century, but was subsequently restored and today can be visited. The view from the fortress is splendid.

It can be visited in the summer.
