Saracen Tower
Bellaria Igea Marina - Bellaria
After the Turkish pirates invasions at the end of the XVI century, the Papal State decided to build a serie of towers, from Tavollo to Bellaria, in order to defend the Coast inhabitants.
Inside the towers there was a garrison of 5 soldiers and one officer, equipped with "arquebus springals, gun powder and fuses". When the bell rang, inhabitants could stay inside and organize the defence.
Afterwards the tower had been used to lodge those people who were suspected to be contagious. Now the Tower is the seat of a shell museum.
