Igea Marina
has more recent origins. In the early 20th century, Dr Vittorio Belli, who gave the town its name in 1904, started work on the reclamation and forestation of the area immediately south of the River Uso, previously covered by dunes and marshes, with a few scattered houses. The first boarding houses opened in 1913, followed in 929 for the first summer holiday camps for children. Igea has also benefited from radical street furnishing projects in recent years, as can be seen from the splendid Viale Ennio, which gives the town centre an unmistakable touch of class.
